There's Much to Experience Around Lake James!Fonta Flora State Trail
Authorized in 2015, the Fonta Flora State Trail will connect Morganton to Asheville with a hiking and biking trail. Included in the trail is a loop around Lake James.
The trail will traverse Lake James Camping Resort, part of Pisgah National Forest and Fonta Flora County Park in Burke County. It will also connect to the Overmountain Victory National Historic Trail and the Mountains-to-Sea State Trail.
Pisgah National Forest
Water enthusiasts beware…you may really like this place. One of the prettiest lakes in the Carolinas, Lake James offers stunning views and is famous for being a filming location of “The Last of the Mohicans” and “The Hunt for the Red October”. The Pisgah National Forest entrance is approximately 25 minutes from Lake James Camping Resort.
Biltmore Estate
Biltmore Estate is a historic house museum and tourist attraction in Asheville, North Carolina. Biltmore House, the main residence, is a Châteauesque-style mansion built for George Washington Vanderbilt II between 1889 and 1895 and is the largest privately owned house in the United States, at 178,926 square feet of floor space (135,280 square feet of living area). Still owned by George Vanderbilt's descendants, it remains one of the most prominent examples of Gilded Age mansions. Approximately 45 minutes from Lake James Camping Resort.
Blue Ridge Parkway
The Blue Ridge Parkway is America’s most visited National Park unit and is known as “America’s favorite drive.” Its 469 miles connect the Great Smoky Mountains National Park in North Carolina to the Shenandoah National Park in Virginia. Along the way, the Blue Ridge Parkway offers stunning views of the Blue Ridge mountains, forests, and pastoral landscapes, with abundant hiking trails, picnic areas, campgrounds, and interpretive signage. Linville Caverns
Experience the wonders that nature created on the “inside of a mountain”. Linville Caverns provides guided tours into Humpback Mountain take visitors along a smooth walkway beside an underground stream. Stalactites, stalagmites, a vast array of mineral colors, the “Bottomless Pool,” and a glimpse of total darkness are all part of this underground trip. Linville Gorge
This North Carolina Attraction is touted as “The Grand Canyon of North Carolina” Linville Gorge offers an average depth of 1,400 feet, and is a haven for both the beginner and experienced hiker. Linville Gorge is the home of the Peregrine Falcon, the world’s fastest animal Located off of 221 just minutes off of the Blue Ridge Parkway. Approximately 60 minutes from Lake James Camping Resort.
Linville Falls
This North Carolina Attraction is definitely worth the visit. Linville Falls is the most photographed waterfall in North Carolina. The falls move in several distinct steps, beginning in a twin set of upper falls, moving down a small gorge, and finally culminating in a high-volume 90-foot drop. Linville Falls has the highest volume of any waterfall on the Northern Edge of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Approximately 60 minutes from Lake James Camping Resort.
